Summertime Stream Series

This four part summer series focuses on improving Medina’s streams through community improvement events and a presentation.

Invasive Species Pull – June 11th
12pm-2pm, Holmesbrook Park, 660 College Street, Wadsworth, OH 44281

A factor that is considered when evaluating the health of a stream is the plant life that grows around it. Often invasive species move into wild spaces and take over a habitat, decreasing biodiversity and the health of the surrounding stream habitat. This is why for our first event we’ll be hosting an Invasive Species Removal at Holmsbrook Park with the Medina County Park District.

* You will be asked to sign a waiver prior to the start of the event.
* Please bring loppers if you have them, as we have a limited supply to lend.

Rain Barrel Workshop – June 18th
12pm-2pm, Hinckley Town Hall, 1410 Ridge Rd, Hinckley, OH 44233
*Fee: $60 (Cash or Check) if you would like to assemble a rain barrel

The health of our watersheds are tied to how we use the land, and green infrastructure, like rain barrels, play a part in helping reduce stormwater runoff and pollution. In this workshop you’ll learn about different types of green infrastructure with a focus on rain barrels. After the presentation you’ll be able to assemble and take home your very own rain barrel (optional).

*2 drills provide for class. Feel free to bring your own if possible.

Champion Creek Clean-up – June 21st
12pm-2pm, Medina Restore, 233 Lafayette Rd, Medina, OH 44256

What is a stream series event without a stream clean-up? Join us in cleaning up Champion Creek, which runs through the heart of the City of Medina. The clean-up will require you to walk on uneven ground through a stream, closed toe water shoes/boots required.

*You will be asked to sign a waiver prior to the start of the event.

Creating Streamside Habitat – June 25th
6pm-7:30pm, Krabill Lodge, 7597 Ballash Rd, Medina OH, 44256

In our final event for our Summertime Stream Series we’ll be discussing why creating habitat along a stream is critical for maintaining stream health, reducing erosion, and combating invasive species. Though this class is geared toward landowners with streams on their property, all are welcome.
